Provides support to achieve/maintaininternal and external product specifications and feedback on laboratory specific microbiological and chemical equipment andmethodology. Works cross-functionally and provides technicalexpertisein both Chemistry andMicrobiology ofproducts.Proficient in all chemical and microbiological assays performed on a routine basis and performs assays as needed. Key Responsibilities Supervises the day-to-day activities of multiple teams of entry level individual contributors and/or supervisors. Provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure successful delivery of team goals. Participates in HR activities such as hiring, terminations, performance management, goal setting, team member development, scheduling, etc. Enforces and contributes to the development of systems, policies, and procedures. Drafts, reviews,maintains, and updates policies, procedures, forms, protocols, and standards andassistsinmaintainingHACCP, SSOP, and SOPs to make sure they are current,accurate, and readily available to USDA inspectors. Oversees implementation of changes and training to ensure effectivenessof inapplication job skills. Ensures compliance with all company and plant quality policies, including but not limited to USDA and state regulations, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) program, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP's), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's). Assistwith developing,implementingandmaintaininglaboratory programs, procedures, and standards to ensure achievement and improvement of quality, operational efficiencies, waste reductions, and product hold reductions. (i.e., microbiological chemical analysis programs, product testing, environmental testing, etc.) Monitors and performs inspections to ensure compliance with GMPs, SOPs, and other quality and food safety standards.Identifiesand mitigate HSE risks and risks to the wellbeing of oneself and others in the workplace, routinely audits for safety compliance. Prepares information for and conducts/assistsin both internal and external audits.Identifiesroot cause of deviations,identifiesand implements proper corrective and preventative actions, and report andescalateissues asappropriate. Investigates and collaborates toidentifypossible Critical Control Points. Representsthe function in internal and external meetings, providing technicalexpertiseand guidance. Attends andparticipatesin safety meetings. Performs microbiological, chemical, and physical analysis of samples usingestablishedmethod. Provides guidanceintroubleshooting issues (i.e., finished product, ingredient, sanitation, environmental, equipment andmethodologyissues, etc.). Supervises the review andmaintenanceall quality records, supporting documentation, staffing data, and lab data. Utilizes laboratory data to prepare reports, graphs, and charts for members of management andinitiateapplicable corrective measuresin the event ofnonconformance. Works with vendors tofacilitatetimelydelivery of materials and organize equipment maintenance/repairs. We challenge ourselves and our company to constantly learn, develop, grow, improve, and innovate Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience in food production and/or poultry industry Knowledge of BRC and other audit processes and requirements Knowledge and understanding of organizational policies and procedures., microbiological systems, microbiological and chemical assays, USDA regulations, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), SOP (Standard Operating Procedure), SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures Procedure), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and Food Safety Program and requirements Solid leadership skills with the ability to coach, support, and motivate a team Effective communication, organization, time-management, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills Skilled at resource management, delegation, and prioritizing deliverable Demonstrated knowledge of quality management, business,manufacturingand timekeeping computer software programs Preferred Knowledge,Skillsand Abilities B.S. in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or related field Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate equipment, computer, telephone, keyboard, and occasionally climb and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, colorvisionand the ability to adjust focus. Working Conditions & Travel Requirements Work will be performed in a variety of conditions includingclimate controlledoffice environment(s), laboratory environment(s) (containingvarious chemical reagents and microbiological organisms), and manufacturing plant environment(s) with varying conditions, such as cold areas, warm areas, chemicals, and other site conditions. This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment while in manufacturing and laboratory environments. The noise level of the office and laboratory environments are usually moderate; the noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 DBA.
