DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the data entry, processing, and analysis of information related to the revision of permits for surface bituminous coal mines and noncoal surface mines. By handling the data entry tasks, the intern will alleviate some of the burdens faced by the permitting staff, enabling them to focus on the more complex aspects of permit review. This assistance is expected to enhance the efficiency of the permitting process, allowing for quicker evaluations and decisions regarding permit revisions. Ultimately, the intern's contributions will facilitate a more streamlined workflow, ensuring that the permitting staff can address revisions in a more timely and effective manner.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2026 through 8/28/2026
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on a schedule that aligns with the supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in New Stanton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Enrollment in good academic standing as a FULL-TIME student in a bachelor's, or advanced degree program in:
    • Geology
    • Earth Science/Environmental Science
    • Chemistry/Biology
  • An approved major course at an accredited college or university.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Freshman year completed by May 2026
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment of a Pennsylvania college or university.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
