DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The main responsibilities of this role involve transcribing, copying, scanning, researching, and entering or updating both analog and digital geological and hydrogeological data files aimed at developing future groundwater maps within the Commonwealth. This position is supported by internal funding. The primary emphasis is contributing to the Bureau's research initiatives, particularly focusing on groundwater projects at the Survey; however, additional tasks may be assigned as needed. The role also presents opportunities to collaborate with staff geologists and engage in fieldwork to explore geological and hydrogeological sites, among other potential activities. A background in geology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and proficiency in the Microsoft Windows operating environment is preferred to enhance the effectiveness of the candidate in this position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/28/2025
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a 60-minute lunch.

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:
- Geology
- Earth Sciences
- Environmental Science
- An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable.
- Freshman year completed by May 2026
- Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
- Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires a valid Class C Driver's License.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
