Introduction

This Classification is considered exempt and is not subject to the Civil Service Examination process.

This position is open to all candidates, both internal and external, who meet the minimum requirements.

Residency Requirement:There is no residency requirement to submit an application; however, all District employees must be domiciled within the boundaries of the District within six months of successful completion of probation. (The District is in Cook County, Illinois, covering approximately 90% of the county area.)

Application Submission Information
Duties: Under the general direction of the District's Executive Director, implements and manages programs and policies of the Maintenance and Operations Department, including protection of the water environment by collecting and treating wastewater in the most economical and environmentally sustainable manner possible, beneficially using biosolids and managing stormwater infrastructure. Directs the maintenance and operation of collection systems and seven treatment plants and ancillary pumping stations with combined capacity of 2.0 billion gallons per day.
Desirable Qualifications: Master's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering and twelve years of experience in the stormwater/wastewater field of which at least six years must have been in upper management positions. Several years of this experience should include the maintenance and operations of collection, stormwater and treatment infrastructure. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
