DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Mechanic Intern, you will have the invaluable chance to collaborate closely with experienced mechanics, allowing you to acquire vital skills necessary for success in a variety of automotive tasks. Your role will encompass a range of responsibilities, including conducting general repairs and preventative maintenance on both cars and light trucks. You will be involved in performing oil changes and tire rotations, inspecting and replacing brake systems, and evaluating and repairing suspension components. Furthermore, you will gain experience in diagnosing and repairing air conditioning systems, meticulously documenting all repairs, and comprehending and executing work orders. Proficiency in utilizing computer diagnostics will also be a key aspect of your training. It is essential to uphold the integrity of tools and equipment by adhering to proper handling, usage, and storage practices, while also ensuring that all activities align with departmental policies and procedures. This internship will not only enhance your technical abilities but also provide a solid foundation for your future career in the automotive industry.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
- High School Internship for the 2025-2026 School Year - Beginning 07/01/25 - 06/30/26.
- If this will be the student's junior year, the option exists for the student to continue through senior year.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
- You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Additional Requirements:
- Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
- By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
- Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
- You must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved vocational program that has provided preparation and training for the duties of this internship.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
