Primary Purpose
Provides wound care to patients to decrease complications, speed healing time, and assist in maximum recovery for patients. Education Must have completed or hold one of the following:
Experience Previous experience as a wound care technician preferred. Certification/Registration/Licensure Basic Life Support (BLS) required from one of the following:
Current employees have a grace period until July 21st, 2023, to obtain their BLS Certification. Skills or Special Abilities Must be able to successfully complete all department assigned competencies. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively with patients, families, medical staff and hospital personnel. Must be able to document care given in the medical record. Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors. Responsibilities 1.Assist with wound care. 2.Performs specified patient care activities, under the direction of a licensed medical provider, including providing basic hygiene care, unsterile treatments, taking vital signs, and range of motion exercises. Lifts, ambulates, and feeds patient in accordance with the provision of patient centered/patient valued care, while providing optimal care services to patients and their families. 3.Serves as a patient advocate by responding to a patients needs and special requests. Maintains open communication, and honors patients rights and confidentiality, while providing optimal service to patients and their families. 4.Demonstrates wound care to patients and family members in collaboration with the licensed medical provider. 5.Maintains, updates, and utilizes knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, supplies and equipment usage to optimize customer care and services. Monitors conditions of patient environment and equipment, i.e. wheelchairs, bed rails, scales, floor conditions, and corrects the condition and/or reports the deficiencies or defects for immediate correction as appropriate. 6.Monitors ongoing patient status, including wounds, and responds to a patents change in condition by notifying and assisting nurses and other health team members in handling patient care needs. 7.Escorts patients to other areas, clean designated or special area, provide or request translation services when applicable, perform quality control checks, and deliver patient specimens when applicable in order to provide optimal patient care. 8.Stocks and distributes supplies, transports linens, and completes charge vouchers. 9.Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development by attending in-services and reading internal publications and integrates this knowledge as appropriate to the job. 10.Maintains a positive working relationship with staff, patients, family members, and physicians to ensure the patient receives the best possible care. 11.Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Wound Care area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans.
