Shingle Machine Operator - Roofing Department Location:Summit Plant Position Type:Union Pay Rate:$26.91 per hour Openings:1 About the Role: The primary objective of this position is to operate and maintain the shingle machine and laminator to ensure quality product in a safe, efficient and effective manner. Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the shingle machine, laminator and auto catcher equipment
- Understand knife usage and position on cutting cylinder head
- Monitor laminate and sealant levels in use tanks and panel views
- Make minor adjustments to equipment jams and trouble shoot equipment problems
- Assist changing cutting cylinders when needed
- Monitor application of laminate and sealant for amount and placement
- Assist in threading machine as assigned
- Observes quality of sheet and inspects product for (color, contamination, tape alignment and other quality standards)
- Monitor line speed and adjust as needed to remain in quality and safety specs
- Maintain constant communication with all front-end and back-end operators about any quality issues
- Report any unusual or suspect material issues to the shift supervisor
- Monitor sheet for dimensions, tab cutouts, and adjust as need
- Perform Q.C. tests on finished product, including but not limited to, dimensions, release tape alignment, product weight, nail line alignment, laminate bonding, wet shingles, shadow line alignment, etc. and records data on appropriate sheets
- Records and charts process controls and other information as directed
- Starts up and shuts down laminate systems as required
- Monitor and maintain panel view settings for tension settings, line speed, temperature, etc.
- Accurately perform quality control testing on finished products and verify that all paperwork is complete and turned in at the end of each shift
- Assist in lace up for start-ups and after breaks, perform other misc. duties required by shift supervisor
- Perform other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor
- Participate in safety and good housekeeping programs established in the plant
- Follow all safety rules and procedures
- Notify your supervisorimmediatelyof any accident, near miss accident or on-the-job injury when it occurs no matter how insignificant it may seem
- Operate equipment only when you are trained in its use or are working with or under the direction of a qualified employee, and you are authorized to do so by your supervisor
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Participate in TPM activities
SKILLS AND ABILITIES The employee should hold the following abilities:
- Must be familiar and knowledgeable on the shingle machine and laminator, autocatchers, wrapper and palletizer
- Basic mathematics skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge and use of Allen Bradley panel views
- Ability to use calculator
COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES The employee must be able to:
- Log into and navigate company intranet to access paycheck/benefits enrollment information
- Log into and navigate Learning Management system and accomplish required online training routinely
- Basic computer skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE The employee should have the following:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency
Physical Requirements: The employee should possess the ability to:
- Ability to routinely lift up to 40 lbs without assistance
- Ability to routinely lift up to 80 lbs with assistance
- Work for up to 12 hours in extreme hold/cold manufacturing environment
- Walk/stand on concrete floors continuously for up to 12 hours
- Routinely ascend and descend stairs to enter work areas
- Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel toed shoes, ear plugs, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) as necessary for task
- Push/Drive floor sweeping and cleaning equipment or tools as necessary for housekeeping duties
- Lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs) from Auto Catcher to seconds re-wrap or recycle/trash receptacle.
- Ability to rotate and work shift work
- Ability to help with all line breaks and lace-ups
