MRR Reactor Operations

Job Description

The Reactor Operator Trainee reports directly to the Assistant Reactor Manager-Operations. The primary purpose of this position is to learn about Reactor Operations, and ultimately obtain a Reactor Operator license.

Job Duties

  • Be available for regular and consistent onsite work.
  • Operate and control the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) in accordance with policies and procedures, to protect the public from radiation and to ensure environmental safety.
  • Adjust controls to position rods and regulate flux level, reactor period, and coolant temperature, following standard procedures.
  • Implement emergency procedures when needed.
  • Respond to abnormalities, determine cause, and recommend corrective action.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure plant reliability.
  • Implement actions such as lockouts/tagouts to allow equipment to be safely repaired.
  • Recognize typical problems that can occur, and report them to the control room.
  • Learn, understand, and use existing procedures to perform tasks for safe operation of the reactor.
  • Attain knowledge sufficient to pass the Nuclear Regulatory Commission License exam for Reactor Operator.

Shift

Shift work/scheduled shift to be discussed during a potential interview. Nights and weekends as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a nuclear related field or 5-years applicable experience.
  • Ability to identify and operate basic mechanical tools.
  • Familiarity with human performance error prevention tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Salary Range: $25.25 to $29.35 per hour
Grade: GGS-M05
