A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Taylor Jay at the University of Iowa. Research in the Jay lab focuses on how neurons and glia communicate with one another to regulate brain development and maintenance. Work for this position will address how glia use immune-related pathways to recognize which synapses require elimination in development and in aging. In addition to these scientific goals, this position will include professional development activities that will prepare the applicant to be successful in their future career endeavors. This includes opportunities for mentorship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to connecting with research communities across the university through seminars, journal clubs and progress meetings. This position will introduce the applicant to multiple techniques, including ELISA-based screening approaches, additional molecular biology techniques and fly genetics. Mentorship in grant-writing, career development awards, and preparing for and navigating the academic job market will be provided. Education Requirement: * Ph.D. in neuroscience Required Qualifications: * Experience working with fly and mouse models. * Previous experience working in models of neurodegeneration. * Background in the around of immune-related pathways in the context of neuroscience. * Experience mentoring peers and trainees. * Ability to work autonomously, problem solve and effectively manage own time/workload to meet project goals.
