Position Information

New Hanover County is looking for a casual part-time Family Caregiver Resource Specialist to join the Senior Resource Center. This role is responsible for a variety of program operation assignments in the Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) in support of family caregivers. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of cognitive impairments affecting older adults and caregivers' responsibilities, including the associated stresses and needs of families. They should be able to work independently, demonstrate excellent organizational, decision-making, and critical thinking skills, and possess strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication abilities. Experience in caregiver education training in both large and small groups is essential. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with vendors and caregivers, as well as preparing grant reports. Responsibilities include:
- Schedule and conduct eligibility interviews, maintain client files and case notes, prepare case plans, prepare client correspondence, and determine eligibility for the Family Caregiver Support Program under the FCSP grant guidelines and policies.
- Provide case management and support to caregivers in accessing necessary services.
- Assist in the development and enhancement of family caregiver programs and resources including monthly caregiver newsletter.
- Identify and implement functional solutions to complex challenges faced by family caregivers.
- Collaborate with the lead Family Caregiver Social Worker to design, develop, and strengthen the New Hanover County Family Caregiver Support Program.
- Establish communication channels and build relationships with community-based resources focused on family caregiver issues.
- Prepare programmatic reports and services for the in the Aging Resource Management System and to the Area Agency on Aging.
- Conduct research on caregiving, aging, and long-term care using both traditional and automated sources.
- Perform additional duties as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth understanding of and ability to advocate for the complex needs of family caregivers.
- Skilled in interpreting and applying policies to ensure compliance with both programmatic and fiscal requirements.
- Clear and effective presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to collaborate daily with staff, providers, and the public.
- Ability to seek, develop, and secure funding and programmatic resources from both public and private sources.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and various virtual platforms for engaging with family caregivers and professionals.

Hours:
Up to 19 hours a week, between 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.

Salary Information:
The salary for this position is $21.2269/hour, up to 19 hours per week.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in gerontology, social work, sociology, counseling, public policy, or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aging or long-term care is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.
- Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and virtual platforms is required.
