THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position will focus on organizing and scheduling activities for older adults in a neighborhood senior center. You can expect to respond to questions regarding federal, state, and agency regulations and policies which govern the delivery of center recreational, nutritional, and instructional services for program participants and the public. Additional duties include ordering food service, supplies, and arranging for transportation services as necessary. You will be tasked with evaluating the success of center services in accomplishing program goals and recommending improvements in the delivery of services. This will be accomplished through personal observation, comparison with applicable federal, state, and agency laws, regulations or policies and informal discussions with program participants. You will have the opportunity to participate in formal and informal training sessions which provide the methods, procedures, rules, and regulations that govern the programs and the internal operations of the Area Agency on Aging.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three months of experience in providing direct services in a human services, education or a community based setting to the aging population or to individuals from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds or to individuals who have physical, intellectual or emotional disabilities; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Northumberland County. If no eligible candidates who live within Northumberland County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
