Scope of Position:

The Water Fitness Instructor 1 will be responsible for providing safe aquatics wellness to patrons.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge Required: Read, write, and speak English language to express ideas and communicate effectively; safe aquatics practices.

Skills Required: Use of aquatic equipment and cleaning supplies.

Abilities Required: Teach aquatic exercise programs in deep and shallow water; multi-task and follow instructions to complete tasks in a safe and effective manner; Interact with individuals using generally accepted business behaviors and standards; use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations; respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Teach aquatics exercise programs.
  • Provide a program/class atmosphere that promotes and encourages inclusion and satisfaction to all participants.
  • Respond to emergency situations and if necessary, administer CPR/First Aid.
  • Prepare and submit accident/incident reports
  • Participate in In-Service training, orientations and other staff meetings as requested.

Physical Requirements:



  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, smell, talk, hear, have eye-hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak and read English and work in noisy areas.
  • Must be able to be in a chlorinated environment for a long period of time.
  • Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.


      Working Conditions:

      This position may have frequent in person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated. The worker may be exposed to different inside and outside environmental conditions. The worker may be subject to sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise level. The schedule for this position may include weekends and evenings.

      Miscellaneous:

      Education and Work Experience:



      1. Work/Professional Experience: Some experience in Customer Service and Aquatics Cleanliness.


      License and Certifications:

      First Aid/CPR/AED required. Certification in Lifeguard Training preferred. Certification accepted from American Red Cross or Ellis & Associates. Swim lesson instruction and water exercise instruction are strongly preferred. It is the employee's responsibility to maintain and keep certifications current.
