Internship - Computer Vision Techniques for Optical Metrology

The Glass and Ceramics Development department at ASML in Wilton, Connecticut is seeking an intern to work in the Applied Metrology and Analytics team on computer vision and image processing for optical metrology applications.

The Glass and Ceramics Development department (GCD) is a multi-disciplinary group of engineers and scientists focused on bringing innovation and quality to glass and ceramics products, creating technology solutions to meet product performance, cost, and manufacturing requirements throughout the product lifecycle, and applying our product, competencies, and process experience to deliver excellence in glass and ceramics in collaboration with product functional and factory teams.

This internship is during the summer of 2026, lasting approximately 12 weeks. This position is located on-site in Wilton, CT.It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.

Your assignment

The main focus of this position will be to:

  • Develop computer vision and image processing algorithms for optical metrology applications. This work may include:
    • Image stitching
    • Feature recognition
    • Developing a software packa.ge to standardize image processing
    • Performance analysis
  • Collaborate with the team in metrology image data collection and the development of software and analysis tools.
  • Understand technical requirements and drive to a solution that meets them.
  • Clearly document and communicate progress, findings, and insights to stakeholders.

Your profile

Education and experience

  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and or Optical Engineering with experience in image processing, having completed at least 2 years
  • Pursuing Master's degree in computer science or Masters/PhD in mathematics/physics/optical engineering or related fields
  • Experience in writing software: MATLAB, Python , C/C++, Java
  • Experience in computer vision and the development of image processing algorithms and software
  • Familiarity with software version management e.g. Git, SVN, GitHub, Bitbucket
  • A strong background of course work in computer science, mathematics or computational physics/engineering with a focus on computer vision and image processing.
  • A basic understanding of optical measurement techniques (e.g. interferometry, optical sensors) and imaging systems.
  • Have strong written and oral communicative skills
  • Demonstrated "team player" with a quality orientation and interpersonal skills and a commitment to achieving results on time;
  • Be able to interface with multidisciplinary groups and work effectively in a team and be willing to take on responsibility, follow through
  • Experience with data visualization techniques

Additional Responsibilities:

There is potential for exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage and currents.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work.
