JMT's Hunt Valley, MD office, is seeking a Structural Intern to work with our Structural Inspection team. The candidate will work on a variety of assignments, both independently and with a project team. The candidate will be supported by engineers on the inspection team while learning to complete tasks.

JMT is currently seeking qualified candidates for a structural inspection internship for the summer of 2026.

Interns at JMT will automatically be enrolled in our internship program. JMT's internship program provides opportunities for our interns to job shadow other areas of civil engineering, attend lunch-and-learn seminars, identify personal goals, understand the value of networking, learn about the business of civil engineering, and much more!



Compensation is based upon education level, ranging from $21.00-26.00/hour.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Perform general civil/structural engineering tasks to support various project managers, as required
  • Assist in the field performing bridge and structure inspections
  • Candidate must be physically able to work in the field, sometimes at heights or in confined spaces
  • Write and review bridge inspection reports
  • Input data into asset management programs

Required Skills

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including WORD and EXCEL


Required Experience

  • Students currently pursuing a B.S. degree in civil engineering at a 4-year ABET-accredited university


Preferred Experience



  • Experience in technical writing


Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office (50% of the time) and in the field (50% of the time). Field work will be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions and on uneven terrain or surfaces. Candidate must have the ability to perform inspections while bending, kneeling, or standing, and lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed. Work will require access equipment and perform inspections at heights requiring fall protection, and/or in confined spaces requiring confined space equipment.
