Chief of Police Position Opening The City of Glasgow, Montana, a community of approximately 3200 people, is accepting applications for the Full-Time position of Chief of Police. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen; of legal age to perform the duties of this job under MT law; possess a MT driver’s license, possess MT POST certification; and or be able to obtain same within twelve (12) months of hire (if currently holding certification from another state); employer retains the right to require the successful applicant to take the Montana Law Enforcement Physical Abilities test (MPAT); not have been convicted of a crime for which the person could have been imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiary; no felony and no domestic abuse convictions; be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation; Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field; seven (7) years of experience in police work, three years of which must have been equivalent to police sergeant or higher; completion of the basic law enforcement training academy or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; demonstrate the possession of communication skills, temperament, motivation, and other characteristics necessary to the accomplishment of the duties and functions of a peace officer, as determined through an oral examination; be able to legally possess firearms; possess the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities typically obtained through a combination of education and experience to act as a Police Officer; possess good verbal/written communication skills. (Reference MCA 7-32-303.) Must be able to handle several tasks simultaneously; be able to react quickly and effectively in stressful situations; work nights, weekends, holidays. Be willing to reside in City of Glasgow. The City of Glasgow retains the right to perform a criminal background check and a personality evaluation on individuals considered for this position.
