If so, the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) has an exciting paid internship opportunity for you within the Bureau of Geological Survey. We are excited to welcome a Geologic Survey Intern who is interested in further developing your knowledge surrounding geology and various rock types. If you are eager to learn about the many layers of Pennsylvania's geology, we want to meet you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Geologic Survey Intern, you will work with professional staff to develop a basic understanding of Pennsylvania geology, rock types, and geologic maps. Specific duties will entail assisting with sample collection and preparation of rocks, soils, and minerals; learning introductory lab procedures such as rock preparation, mineral identification, and data logging; learning about core library/archive use; and assisting with outreach preparation to include creating educational materials, displays, and handouts for public events. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Paid internship lasting until 6/30/2026.
- Work schedule will vary based on agreement between the Commonwealth supervisor and the school, at time of hire.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years of age.
- You must be a junior or senior enrolled in High School during the 2025-2026 school year.
- Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
Additional Requirements:
- By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the school upon an offer and acceptance of the position.
- Work Permit: Minors are required to submit their Work Permit upon an offer and acceptance of the position.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
