Job Summary:

The RWJBarnabas Health New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) Residency program is a one-year program that provides New Graduate RNs with a safe, caring, supportive and robust learning environment for a new graduate nurse to gain clinical competency and achieve transition from student to professional practice. It includes: Preceptor and relationship-guided new graduate transition program, Continuing education and ongoing enhancement of professional development. Specialty specific Foundational Courses developed to reflect scope and standards of practice. Application of professional accountability and ethical practice is inherent in the role of the registered nurse. Recognition of the effects of skilled nursing practice on patient safety, quality and satisfaction. Self-care focuses on maintaining a safe and fulfilling nursing practice for both the nurse and the patient. Mentorship to support the new graduate nurse though their first year of practice and beyond. Hired into the area of specialty. Night Shift. Demonstrated passion in the area of interest. Flexibility to attend orientation and program required educational courses as determined by the program. Leadership and the desire to become involved in the professional practice journey. Ability to attend focus groups and additional learning requirements for practice achievement.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • ASN or Nursing Diploma
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred:

  • Med./Surg. Telemetry and/or ER nursing experience
  • National nursing certifications

Certifications an Licenses Required:

  • BLS through American Heart Association upon hire
  • ACLS Certification within 6 months of start date
  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License or active Compact Registered Nurse License with New Jersey endorsement

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift assignment following completion of orientation
  • Night Shift,
  • Full Time

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates evidence of use of the nursing process within time frames defined by the hospital and departmental policy,
  • Recognizes and accurately identifies patient and family health care needs,
  • Plans, implements and evaluates pediatric rehab plans for patients with a variety of problems,
  • Begins to plan and implement pediatric rehabilitation rationales,
  • Implements appropriate and individualized patient and family education within time frames defined by hospital and departmental policy,
  • Begins planning and implementing patient and family education,
  • Understands the importance of the interdisciplinary process,
  • Functions as a rehab nurse in a team structure,
  • Promotes continuity of nursing care and interdisciplinary interventions,
  • Incorporates LPNs and nursing assistants into attainment of short term goals and delegates appropriately,
  • Recognizes and respects patient and family rights in a culturally and religiously sensitive environment of care,
  • Requests guidance from CNII, III, and other resources when appropriate,
  • Supports hospitals policies and procedures,
  • Consistently appraises clinical performance and learning needs through self evaluation,
  • Exhibits consistent professional behavior and is accountable for actions with regard to professional issues,
  • Guides, assists and serves as a role model for, LPNs, nurse externs, nursing assistants, nursing students and new staff,
  • Assumes the role of relief charge nurse,
  • Keeps nursing supervisor informed of patient needs and problems,
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills,
