Description

  • Massachusetts Grade 4 Waste Water Treatment License required



This position works in a team environment supporting the Environmental & Safety Manager with the operation of a continuous flow chemical precipitation pre-treatment plant. $29.60-39.79



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Once trained, essential duties for this position include the following - other duties may be assigned:
  • Supporting four critical areas (Pollution Control Facility, Solids Treatment Area, Heat Treat Neutralization, and the Oil Recovery Ultra-Filtration Area) to ensure regulatory compliance, including observation and maintenance of all equipment
  • Running filters and ultra-filtration equipment
  • Replenishing chemicals, handling hazardous waste by-products and chemical transportation of small volumes with a forklift
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical examination to operate forklift.
  • Conducting and logging routine audits of environmental and safety equipment on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Maintaining industrial pre-treatment license requirements (i.e. 20 TCH's every two (2) years)

Education and Experience:



  • High School/ GED required
  • Completion of vocational academic program or certification program preferred
  • Basic science, math and/or chemistry background preferred
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Certification preferred


Competencies and Skills:



  • Must have strong command of the English language
  • Must be able to read, write and interpret the English language
  • Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (verbal instructions, written memos and instructions)
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Must have mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of electronics/electricity preferred
  • Excellent conceptual skills, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation skills, attention to detail, and judgment preferred
  • Ability to problem solve independently


Physical Demands:



  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, push, pull, carry, reach, twist
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:


Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.



The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:


Safety glasses with side shields, Company approved safety footwear and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor


The use of additional chemical specific personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department.
