What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Materials Planner to support the purchasing, warehousing, and routing of material to production lines. This is a cross-functional role that requires coordination between many different groups within and outside of Tesla. This person will interface with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, production planning, and operations to drive materials for production.

What You'll Do
  • Build and leverage cross-functional relationships with engineering and suppliers to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets; represent material supply status in executive and daily reviews
  • Develop material management strategies for prototype builds, including replenishment from warehouse to line and coordination with program management on schedules (quantity, sequencing, validation, and availability)
  • Define and enforce processes for ad hoc material requests from engineering and non-production groups
  • Manage all aspects of material flow for owned portfolio, including alignment with engineering and sourcing on revision control, inspection validation, sign-off by design engineering, and subcontracting modifications if needed
  • Lead team transition of products into production, including hand-off of planning to Production Planning, setup of material planning and MRP validation, and allocation of warehouse space
  • Ensure timely material arrival to support prototype builds and prompt quality reviews of first shipments

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in an Engineering-oriented discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in production control, materials management, production planning, material scheduling, or purchasing within a manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritize tasks dynamically, balancing urgency (e.g., resolving line-down situations) with long-term importance (e.g., preparing the supply base for production ramp-up)
  • Strong analytical skills, including data analysis to optimize delivery costs and inventory levels; proficiency in Microsoft Excel is highly desired
  • Open-minded, collaborative, and team-oriented mindset
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
