THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Mill Valley is seeking a community-minded professional to help lead local disaster preparedness and strengthen neighborhood connections. This unique opportunity sits within the Administrative Services/City Manager’s Office and focuses on building community resilience through the City’s Neighborhood Response Group (NRG) program.

In this role, you’ll work directly with residents to recruit and mentor volunteers, support emergency preparedness efforts, collaborate with first responders and community partners, and help shape a citywide program from the ground up. The successful candidate is passionate about public service, community engagement, and emergency preparedness; excels at building relationships; and communicates effectively across diverse groups. The City will hire flexibly within the Management Analyst Series (I or II), based on qualifications and experience, with the potential for a full-time, benefited position for the right candidate.

BENEFITS INFORMATION

If the incumbent is hired on a part-time basis, the position will be unbenefited.

If the incumbent is hired on a *partial full-time equivalency (FTE) or full-time basis, the position comes with the following benefits

  • Health Insurance – City pays the full premium for the Kaiser Family Plan or the equivalent thereof for employees who elect Western Health Advantage HMO
  • Dental Insurance – The City pays the full premium for coverage with Delta Dental PPO
  • Leave – the City offers generous leave, including:
    • Vacation – 2 to 5 weeks depending on service time
    • Sick – 12 days per year
    • Holidays – 15 total (11 named plus 4 floating) per year
    • Paid Family Leave - 320 hours (equivalent to 8 weeks) for the purpose of bonding with a new child or for use related to the birth of the child
  • Retirement
    • New employees with no prior CalPERS service or that have a break in CalPERS service of 6 months or more: 2% @ 62
    • New employees who are “classic” CalPERS members and do not have a break in service of more than 6 months: 2% @ 55
  • Retirement Health Savings Account (RHSA) - mandatory 1% employee contribution (1.5% after 5 years of service); City matches after year 1
  • 457 Deferred Compensation – the City offers up to $600/year in matching contributions toward deferred compensation
  • Other
    • City pays the premiums for a $50,000 life insurance plan, as well as Long-Term Disability insurance
