Position Summary
The position necessitates a strong student-centered educator with excellent interpersonal and technical skills to create and provide innovative learning supports for students. The position also serves as coordinator for services for students with disabilities, interpreting documentation, establishing accommodations, and incorporating assistive technology where applicable. The position assists with other programming of ACE
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate services for Students Accessibility
  • Review all documentation and requests for accommodations for self-identifying students with accessibility requests.
  • Interpret medical documentation for accessibility requests.
  • Determine and coordinate appropriate accommodations for each self-identified student according to federal standards
  • Counsel and advise students with accessibility requests
  • Manage and administer budget for Office of Accessibility Services
  • Develop institutional and community links to maximize delivery of services.
  • Provide assistance with assistive technology and supervise proctoring for exams.
  • Serve as resource for campus personnel in dealing with issues concerning students requesting accessibility.
  • Provide academic support to students within ACE
  • Guide students to develop appropriate learning strategies.
  • Investigate and create assistance in new ways and formats including online.
  • Offer instruction in study-skills, test taking, reading and critical thinking to students.
  • Serve as resource on learning strategies for students and faculty.
  • Assist students in using ACE resources (software, reference books, and materials).
  • Assist with the assessment of above services.
  • Assist with the preparation of databases and reports.
  • Represent ACE at various events and meetings
  • Promote the visibility of ACE resources and services through marketing
  • Assists with other projects and tasks in ACE.
  • Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement
  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in student support services
  • Working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and section 504 and their relationship to higher education
  • Knowledge of federal laws related to physical accessibility and housing accommodations
  • Understanding the learning needs of university students and best practices in student success
  • Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of working with students of diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with both adult and traditional-age students
  • Strong oral and written communication and problem-solving skills and computer literacy
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position
  • Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's degree in education, student personnel, counseling, instructional technology or related discipline; or Master's degree with experience in disability or accessibility services
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in student support services and disability services
  • Experience with web-based technology to supplement learning
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Familiarity with the use of instructional technology and media to assist disabled students

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule
Year-round position; Mondays through Fridays with some evening and weekend hours.
Physical Requirements of Position
Work is performed in an office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
