Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides patient care under the supervision of the medical director and through collaboration with
the medical staff providing assessment, evaluation and treatment to patients under ARNP licensure
guidelines.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participates in the formulation of patients' Master Treatment Plan.
2. Assesses physical and psychiatric health of patient and formulates measures to meet
patient's needs.
3. Dictates and charts clinical observations, evaluations and treatment of patients in required
time according to facility guidelines.
4. Communicates with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other staff as necessary to
provide quality care for patients within appropriate guidelines.
5. Provides on call responsibilities on scheduled basis directed by of medical staff.
6. Makes recommendations, writes and dictates orders, and prescribes appropriate treatment.
7. Maximizes opportunities for quality care.
8. Contributes to and participates in Performance Improvement.
9. Maintains appropriate safe physical management skill requirements.
10. Attends required in-services and completes Staff Education Attendance Record.
11. Documentation reflects nursing process, including individualized education and discharge
planning needs of the patient and family.
12. Develop an individualized treatment plan with measurable goals that reflects understanding
of treatment process.
13. Encourages family involvement in patient care.
14. Responds to identified patient and family educational needs.
15. Incorporates hospital mission statement in all aspects of work. Responds to changing unit
needs. Demonstrates understanding of cost containment and economy of hospital resources
when indicated.
16. Supports and follows legal requirements and hospital policy and procedures and medical
staff bylaws and regulatory requirements
17. Participates in scheduled meetings and in-services.
18. Provides clear and concise communication. Collaborates with other health team members
regarding patient and/or unit needs. Shares pertinent assessments, incorporates other
disciplines knowledge of skill.
19. Participates in orientation of new employees, willingly serves as preceptor and role model.
20. Conducts self in professional manner.
21. Seeks opportunities for continued education and professional growth.
22. Maintains positive, energetic attitude.
23. Incorporates service specific knowledge (children, adolescent, sex offender, or dual
diagnosis/chemical dependency) into daily activities.
a. Assesses adolescents between the ages of 12 - 18 or children between the ages of 4 -
12 utilizing appropriate developmental and program specific issues (chemical
dependency, sex offender, general psychiatric).
b. Has dynamic understanding of psychotherapeutic issues and developmental tasks
specific to each age group, child or adolescent.
c. Possesses sound clinical knowledge of mental health and program specific issues.
d. Understands and demonstrates the ability to prioritize the patient's needs in relation
to the presenting problem.
e. Understands and incorporates theories of family dynamics in patient's treatment and
family therapy.
f. Develops treatment plans using the most recent treatment practices in each treatment
area.
g. Understands the distinct purposes of transitional hospitalization treatment and
specifically incorporates these purposes in the patient's treatment plan.
h. Incorporates the daily return of the transitional hospitalization in the daily or
otherwise specified periodic goal-setting treatment plan in the specified intervention.
i. Discharge Planning
j. Reflects understanding of recovery as a life-long process.
i. Incorporates recovery and support system into the discharge plan.
ii. Incorporates knowledge of home environment and available
support/community resources.
24. Willingly accepts additional responsibilities outside routine job functions.
25. Will adhere to all safety policies and safe work practice.
26. Will attend hospital safety trainings.
27. Will adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
28. Will report all accidents immediately.
29. In accordance with the Scope of Practice of the Kentucky Board of Nursing the
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner will provide services including but not limited

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master's of Nursing with Licensure as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
(ARNP) in Kentucky.
Training and Experience: Certification and experience in psychiatric nursing.
Knowledge Required: Demonstrate accurate physical, mental, emotional and spiritual assessment
skills and ability to clearly communicate findings both verbally and in writing. Demonstrate
theoretical and practical knowledge of Standards of Nursing Practice and Care in all aspects of care
provided.
