Job Summary:

Join our pediatric pulmonary team at Children's Hospital Colorado Springs and make a meaningful impact on the lives of children with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. In this role, you will primarily support the inpatient pulmonary consult service, providing expert evaluations, managing complex respiratory therapies, and participating in multidisciplinary rounds. You will also follow patients in the outpatient setting, coordinate longitudinal care, and provide patient- and family-centered education, all while collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other members of the care team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a supportive academic environment while directly shaping high-quality pediatric respiratory care. Key Responsibilities include:

Direct Patient Care

Inpatient (80%)

* Provide pulmonary consult services for hospitalized pediatric patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including comprehensive evaluations, formulation and implementation of treatment plans, daily follow-up, and documentation in the electronic medical record.

* Manage and adjust respiratory therapies in collaboration with attending pulmonologists, respiratory therapy, and the primary care teams.

* Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and communicate pulmonary recommendations to consulting and primary teams.

* Monitor clinical progress, respond to changes in patient status, and support escalation or de-escalation of care as appropriate.

Outpatient (20%)

* Conduct outpatient clinic visits for pediatric patients with chronic pulmonary conditions, including post-hospital follow-up.

* Perform ongoing assessment and management, including ordering and interpretation of diagnostic testing and coordination of longitudinal care.

* Provide patient- and family-centered counseling related to disease management, medications, and home respiratory therapies.

Coordination and Collaboration

* Collaborate closely with pediatric pulmonologists and multidisciplinary teams, including hospitalists, intensivists, nursing, respiratory therapy, case management, and social work, to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.

* Assist with discharge planning and care transitions, including coordination of home respiratory equipment and outpatient follow-up.

* Serve as a pulmonary resource for inpatient teams and facilitate clear communication across care settings.

Education

* Provide education to patients and families regarding pulmonary diagnoses, treatment plans, and home respiratory therapies.

* Participate in education of residents, fellows, medical students, nursing staff, and other clinical team members as appropriate

Quality Improvement and Program Support

* Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical pathway development, and programmatic efforts to improve patient outcomes, safety, and efficiency.

* Support divisional meetings, performance improvement activities, and other departmental initiatives related to the pulmonary consult service.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor or Senior Instructor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor

* Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing or completed an accredited Physician Assistant program.

* Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant), with current or eligible national board certification and eligibility for registration with the appropriate state licensing board

Senior Instructor

* Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing or completed an accredited Physician Assistant program.

* Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant), with current or eligible national board certification and eligibility for registration with the appropriate state licensing board

* 5 years of relevant experience as an advanced practice provider at an academic Institution

Condition of Employment:

* Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado

* Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience caring for pediatric patients in inpatient, subspecialty, or consultative care settings.

* Experience or strong interest in pediatric pulmonary medicine or management of chronic respiratory conditions.

* Prior work in an academic medical center, children's hospital, or complex care environment.

* Familiarity with respiratory therapies, pulmonary diagnostics, or coordination of home respiratory equipment.

* Experience participating in quality improvement, clinical pathway development, or educational initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Knowledge of pediatric respiratory physiology and common pulmonary conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings.

* Ability to perform age-appropriate patient assessments, synthesize clinical data, and contribute to evidence-based care plans.

* Demonstrated clinical judgment and ability to manage multiple patients in a consult-based environment.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams.

* Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based academic or hospital setting.

* Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation standards.

* Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, and adapt to changing clinical needs.

* Commitment to patient- and family-centered care, safety, and quality improvement.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: $106,000 to $116,000 dependent upon experience

Senior Instructor: $117,000 to $128,000 dependent upon experience

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
