| Position Summary |
This is a professional-level position within the Information Technology Services unit of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The role requires experience administering computer systems in a production environment, with a strong emphasis on the design, implementation, and management of a data center virtualization environment.
The position is responsible for administering the College's VMware cluster, as well as managing endpoint systems through Microsoft Intune and Jamf. Responsibilities also include backend support for multiple web servers and oversight of off-site backup and recovery systems to ensure data integrity and continuity of operations.
In collaboration with the IT Manager, this position supports hardware lifecycle management, including planning, deployment, maintenance, and replacement of IT infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the College. |
| Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Knowledge of enterprise virtualization technologies, including VMware vSphere, in a production datacenter environment.
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu and other distributions), including system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and modern endpoint management platforms such as Microsoft Intune.
- Proficiency with macOS device management, including Jamf or comparable mobile device management (MDM) solutions.
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions, including platforms such as Synology Active Backup for Business, with an emphasis on data integrity and off-site recovery.
- Experience administering storage systems such as Dell PowerVault SAN, including capacity planning and performance monitoring.
- Understanding of iSCSI storage networking concepts and implementation in virtualized environments.
- Knowledge of change management best practices, including planning, testing, documentation, and communication of system changes in a production environment.
- Strong ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and support documentation for internal stakeholders.

- Installs, configures, maintains, and supports virtualized server environments, including virtual machines in Linux and Windows Server platforms.
- Administers physical and virtual servers, performing system deployment, configuration, patching, monitoring, and troubleshooting in a production environment.
- Monitors system performance and availability, identifying and resolving issues to maintain reliable operations.
- Schedules and executes routine system processes, including data transfers, backups, and maintenance tasks.
- Performs backup verification and recovery operations to ensure data integrity and continuity of services.
- Implements and follows system security practices, including access controls, patching, and system hardening.
- Responds to system alerts, security events, and operational incidents, documenting actions taken and escalating issues as appropriate.
