The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Discovery Oncology

Department Summary

The Department of Discovery Oncology is seeking a talented and motivated summer intern to join the biology research efforts to identify and characterize the next generation of oncology targets. In this role, the candidate will use molecular biology and high content imaging techniques to dissect the mechanistic role of intrinsically disordered protein regions in chromatin regulation, oncogenesis and therapeutic intervention. The position allows the unique opportunity to participate in basic biology research deeply embedded in drug discovery efforts.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, onsite.

The Opportunity

  • Work together with other scientists in the group to design and execute experiments using cell culture and confocal microscopy imaging techniques

  • Keep detailed records of the research findings using an electronic notebook

  • Communicate and present results to a diverse group of scientists during internal meetings

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education:

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Required Majors:
Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, or related field

Required Skills:

  • Hands-on research experience in cell biology/biochemistry/molecular biology lab environment is required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Experience in advanced cell culture techniques such as RNAi, cell line engineering using CRISPR/Cas9 or PiggyBac transposase systems

  • Interest in biomolecular condensates, intrinsically disordered proteins, chromatin and transcriptional regulation

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $46.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
