The Position
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent candidate to join the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Park in the Research Materials Group (RMG) within the Cell Culture and Bioprocess Operations (CCBO) department at Genentech. RMG supports Research & Development efforts across the company by performing transient transfections to produce recombinant proteins. This position will focus on developing a novel, high-titer Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) transient expression platform. The project aims to understand and overcome the biological bottlenecks of transient gene expression (TGE) in CHO cells, such as limiting factors like nuclear DNA uptake, cell cycle progression, and transcriptional activity, which restrict current protein yields. You will utilize advanced molecular and genetic engineering approaches, including OMICS, CRISPR/Cas9, and other advanced molecular biology tools, to identify and overcome intracellular barriers to plasmid delivery and expression. You will explore ways to improve protein expression, including screening genome-wide libraries for increased expression, with the ultimate goal of optimizing a cell line for a high-throughput transient transfection process.
