The Columbia Climate School invites applications for a Staff Associate III (SA-III) who will utilize strong analytical skills in support of complex problems, with limited supervision. They will provide independent judgement in support of research and administrative activities related to the climate capacity training program with UNICEF. They will also support the Climate Change Adaptation core course in the Fall, coordinating among co-instructors and managing all elements of the course. Reporting to the Director of the MA in Climate & Society, this position will:



  • Serve as the Research Implementation Manager for Climate Capacity Strengthening project with UNICEF. This role includes organizing seven international field site training sessions, coordinating closely with Climate School project leads, UNICEF staff, and institutions of higher education in each of the field sites.
  • Lead the development of research-based work products including pre- and post-assessment tools, presentations, and detailed schedules, under PI direction, in support of meeting deadlines.
  • Support the Climate Change Adaptation course in the fall, including coordinating across three co-instructors, two TAs, and up to 200 students.
  • Support other Climate School research and educational needs, as appropriate.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Coordinate all transactional research elements of the Climate Capacity Strenghtening project with UNICEF, including aligning partners across CS/UNICEF and facilitate delivery of training sessions in 7 international locations.
  • Support the Climate Change Adaptation core course, coordinating three co-instructors, providing student support, and ensuring smooth content delivery.
  • Support project efforts for other climate related projects and initiatives as assigned.


Supervision Received of Exercised:

This position will report to Lisa Dale, Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Climate and Director of the MA in Climate & Society. The SA-III will receive minimal supervision. Will exercise independent judgement within parameters set by the supervisor and the PI. The SA-III position will not supervise others. This position will contribute to budget management for the UNICEF project, tracking expenses and working with the central finance team to ensure smooth project delivery.

Bachelor's degree in climate, public policy or related field, and a least 4-6 years of relevant experience. Master's degree in climate, public policy or related field is preferred. Konwledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation, disaster management, and risks facing youth. Advanced project management experience and ability to work under minimal supervision. Understanding of how functions inter-relate and support the broader field of climate change research. Experience working internationally. Strong writing and presentations skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines and with rapidly shifting priorities.

Appointments are made on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for renewal each July 1st, contingent upon performance and funding.
