GEL Solutions, an affiliate of The GEL Group, Inc, is looking for a highly motivated Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Field Supervisor to lead our dynamic team in our Raleigh, NC office as part of the Subsurface Utility Engineering group. The SUE Field Supervisor will be solving challenging problems in the infrastructure, transportation, and industrial sectors. Responsibilities include leading field technicians in the designation and location of utilities, scheduling manpower, and assisting in the production of deliverables. Field work and travel will be required up to 40% of the time. Securing repeat business and expanding our SUE services with existing and new clients is also critical. This position has high growth potential and is ideally suited for an individual who aspires to a critical leadership position with a growing, entrepreneurial company. This job requires teamwork, tenacity, and flexibility to safely meet our clients' needs.

The SUE Field Supervisor will be responsible for:



  • Performing and documenting field work and office CAD production for SUE projects.
  • Direct and perform field utility designation and location on a variety of SUE projects
  • Managing SUE crews and providing quality control for all deliverables.
  • Ability to scope, negotiate and manage SUE projects.
  • Applying appropriate principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to various types of Subsurface Utility Engineering projects.
  • Preparing results of field work in written and/or electronic format.
  • Cultivating existing and identifying new markets and clients for growth within the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Facilitating professional development of SUE staff.
  • Providing exceptional customer service.
  • Focusing on quality and helping to ensure QA/QC procedures are followed.
  • Understanding of applicable Federal, State and local laws, regulations, ordinances and professional ethics.
  • Demonstrating and supporting GEL's core values.

Qualifications for a SUE Field Supervisor:



  • Working experience with radio-frequency electromagnetic pipe and cable locators and ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems for designating subsurface utilities
  • Knowledge of utility investigation techniques utilizing vacuum excavation equipment
  • Survey or SUE managerial experience
  • Computer skills (including MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D) a plus
  • Survey or SUE experience on North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and other transportation projects a plus
  • High School Diploma required
  • 50 lbs. lifting requirement, ability to transport equipment across rugged terrain
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office 365 applications including: Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean Motor Vehicle Record


Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

Work is performedalmost exclusivelyin the field. Occasionallyprojects may be completedat commercial, government, and industrialclient'ssites.Overnight travelisexpectednot to exceed 40%.
