OVERVIEW:

The Sequoia Lead disciples 14-15-year-old males and females through work experience, Bible studies, and camp life, providing spiritual leadership, daily supervision, devotions, and program implementation

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Provide overall leadership and supervision of the Sequoia Leadership Academy under the Assistant Camp Director
  • Meet daily with Sequoia leadership team for prayer, discussion, and program review
  • Supervise Sequoia participants and ensure timely, responsible participation in all assignments
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate programs including Bible studies, journaling, prayer, scripture memorization, and life skills
  • Prepare and communicate daily/weekly schedules to participants
  • Coordinate cabin and "Guided Discovery" assignments with Assistant Camp Director
  • Collaborate with DYS and CE Director on chapel participation and preparation
  • Ensure compliance with camp policies and possession of parent releases for break day activities
  • Conduct weekly evaluations and end-of-session assessments with Sequoia participants
  • Distribute weekly stipends and submit signed receipts to Business Manager
  • Lead curriculum and logistics for the Sequoia Expedition and closing banquet
  • Schedule and conduct exit interviews with parents/guardians or Corps Officers
  • Submit end-of-summer program brief with observations, recommendations, and evaluation
  • Assist in planning and implementing outreach programs for ages 7-15 with DYS and Assistant Camp Director
  • Live with and manage cabin of same-gender Sequoia participants
  • Uphold cleanliness standards through regular checks and break day inspections
  • Report property maintenance issues to Facilities Manager or Maintenance Crew Chief
  • Build relationships with campers and staff to support a positive camp experience
  • Participate in spiritual formation and model Christ-like behavior
  • Assist cabin leaders with camper supervision when pool is not in use
  • Report suspected child abuse immediately to Assistant Camp Director and follow proper procedures
  • Other related duties as required


All staff may be called upon at any time to assist in the total operation of the camp. You are expected to join in all evening programs; absences are excused only through the Assistant Camp Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum 18 years of age (required)
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (required)
  • Camping experience either as a camper or staff (preferred)


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Interest, knowledge, and skills in recreation, programming, and ministry
  • Desire and ability to disciple youth ages 14-15 in a camp setting
  • Ability to creatively motivate and encourage Sequoia participants
  • Organized, collaborative, self-motivated, and able to take initiative
  • General ability to work well with children
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must have a personal and growing relationship with the Lord


EQUIPMENT USED:



  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push and pull objects and tools
