Position Summary:

This position serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the Athletics Department and plays a key leadership role in the overall management, strategic planning, and day-to-day operations of the department. The incumbent will work closely with the Director of Athletics to provide high-level oversight, guide departmental initiatives, and offer expert counsel on both short and long-term operational priorities to ensure the continued growth and success of the athletics program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Athletics in the overall management, supervision, and leadership of the department.

  • Serve as Chief Operating Officer for Athletics, advising the Director on strategic initiatives, policy and procedure development, and the planning, allocation, and oversight of departmental resources.

  • Ensure stability and sustainability departmental budget in compliance with University policy and procedures.

  • Serve as chief representative for Athletics concerning external and internal audits.

  • Develop and administer policies and procedures to ensure compliance with NCAA and other athletic conference rules, regulations and risk management procedures and protocols to minimize the risk of liability.

  • Collaborate with University offices and community agencies to effectively manage assigned functions.

  • Provide direct supervision to selected sports teams. Ensure fiscal soundness and compliance with intercollegiate rules, regulations and procedures.

  • Oversee the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics in absence of the Director of Athletics.

  • Represent the University at appropriate Missouri Valley Conference, NCAA, and university meetings.

  • Manage internal and external operations based on business needs and qualifications.

  • Oversee all related Special Projects.

  • Implement pillars of the department's mission and strategic plan.

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to maximize revenue potential, strengthen the UIC Athletics brand, and expand opportunities for engagement with key audiences.

  • Assist with the department's Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) efforts.

  • Serve as a member of the Athletic Department's executive team.

  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.



  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • A minimum of ten years of experience as a senior level administrator in intercollegiate athletics.

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and financial management principles.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Sports Administration or related field.

  • Experience working with a Division I athletic program.

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, management, and communication skills.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
