Head of Programming (Retail Engagement, Marketing, and Merchandising) This is a 12-month, full-time, remote (Chicago locals preferred) contract role. Summary
The Head of Programming leads the strategy, development, and delivery of culturally relevant programming that drives customer engagement and business impact across retail locations. This role shapes the vision and execution of programs in-store, virtually, and digitally, ensuring alignment with brand objectives, business priorities, and cultural relevance. The position partners across teams to set roadmaps, drive regional initiatives, and evaluate program effectiveness to create meaningful customer experiences. Our Ideal Candidate
- 8+ years of experience managing high-profile events and partnerships, including broadcast, series content, virtual experiences, and live events.
- Passion for retail, marketing, and audience engagement with a strong foundation in program development and content strategy.
- Proficient in cross-functional collaboration with teams such as Programming, Production, Creative, Product Marketing, Public Relations, Retail Operations, Internal Communications, Training, Merchandising, and Finance.
- Familiar with working alongside large, well-known brands and diverse talent.
- Skilled in influencing leadership at all levels, creating strategic, data-driven briefs, and managing multiple teams simultaneously.
- Able to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and networking skills.
- Well-connected in the cultural and creative industry within their market, with the ability to source and recommend talent.
- Flexible, agile, and strategic in project management and content experience development.
Job Description
In this role, you will define and lead the strategic programming agenda, ensuring a balanced portfolio of experiences that reflect business and cultural priorities. You'll drive regional initiatives that advance key business objectives and collaborate with stakeholders across functions to shape content, secure talent, and evaluate programming opportunities. This includes applying data-driven insights to measure program effectiveness and identify opportunities for innovation and scale. You will also oversee ongoing programs, initiatives, and experiences that enhance customer engagement and support retail and brand strategy. Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background in event management, content production, or experiential marketing.
- Experience collaborating with high-profile brands and cross-functional teams.
Additional Requirements
This opportunity is remote with a preference for Chicago-based candidates.
The pay for this W-2 position is $86 per hour.
