OVERVIEW

The Dump Jack Operator plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient unloading of harvested sugar cane during the grinding season. This position is responsible for operating hydraulic dump jacks and related equipment to unload cane wagons, maintain steady workflow, and support overall mill yard operations.

Key Responsibilities



  • Operate hydraulic dump jack equipment to safely lift and unload sugar cane wagons.
  • Inspect incoming wagons for proper positioning, securement, and safe unloading conditions.
  • Communicate with truck drivers, yard personnel, and scale operators to coordinate traffic flow.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around the dump station.
  • Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and company operational guidelines.
  • Assist with routine maintenance, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting of dump jack equipment.
  • Record unloading data as required (load counts, downtime, equipment issues).
  • Support yard operations during downtime, including debris removal or assisting other operators.



Qualifications



  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment or hydraulic machinery preferred.
  • Ability to work in fastpaced agricultural or industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and situational awareness.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with drivers and team members.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays during harvest season.
  • Physical ability to climb equipment, stand for long periods, and work outdoors in varying weather.



Work Environment



  • Outdoor industrial/agricultural setting.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, moving equipment, and seasonal weather conditions.
  • Hightraffic environment requiring constant attention to safety.
  • Ability to perform tasks wearing required PPE such as protective clothing, safety glasses/goggles, steel-toed boots, etc.
