We are currently seeking a Hatchery Manager towork with the Principal Scientist, Commercialization Manager, and Field Manager and oversee all aspects of the R&D hatchery operation including husbandry of brood stock and fry, reproduction, live food culture, daily maintenance of the fish holding facilities, data collection, and supervision of one to two Hatchery Technicians. They will effectively lead a team to assist with new line development, including following the protocols and helping to design and perform fitness tests to fulfill Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
People Management (10%) * Manage required one to two hatchery technicians. * Responsible for selection and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. * Evaluate schedules and establish work hour requirements to ensure completion of job assignments. * Provide on-going feedback, initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals and improve overall work environment. Livestock Management (40%) * Manage all facets of Hatchery operations: - Manage and oversee the breeding and the care of numerous groups and species of tropical aquarium fish. - Responsible for the care of fish embryos and fry which requires gentle handling and great attention to detail. - Maintain healthy/conditioned brood stock. - Direct and guide team to maintain multiple lines of fish to include setting up and breaking down spawning tanks and mixing hatching water. - Guide and direct team members on the maintenance of all fish holding areas including water exchanges, siphoning tanks, etc. * Establish or adjust work procedures to ensure hatchery schedules are met. * Contribute to the accomplishment of Key Performance Indicators including safety, quality, production, cost, and development. * Effectively communicate with other Managers and the Aquatic Veterinarian to ensure coordination of activities of each department. Product Development and Testing (40%) * Partner with Principal Scientist, R&D on new line development. * Keep individual fish and different groups of fish separately as needed, track them and record their pedigree and any unusual findings. * Collect and record data as required by FDA. * Develop testing procedures for new species of fish to satisfy FDA requirements. * Generate groups of fish meeting the defined requirements for testing to satisfy FDA requirements. * Conduct tests on the new lines of fish to satisfy FDA requirements. * Research and develop efficient methods to maintain and propagate new species. Documentation (10%) * Collect and maintain stocking/harvesting dates, growth, age and size class information and species. * Record fish spawning setups and their results. * Record number, age, and generation of fish transferred to producers. * Record fish mortalities and determine cause for any significant events. Education and Experience Profile
* Bachelor's Degree preferred * Minimum 5 years hatchery experience required * Previous supervisory experience required * High degree of discretion dealing with confidential and proprietary information Required Skills
