STS Technical Services is hiring a Safety Director in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to support a growing manufacturing operation. This role provides strategic safety leadership while maintaining a strong, visible presence on the manufacturing floor. The Safety Director will be responsible for building, executing, and sustaining a comprehensive safety program that drives regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and an incident-free workplace culture.
Position Overview
The Safety Director leads all aspects of workplace safety across the organization, partnering closely with leadership, production, quality, and HR teams. This role combines hands-on operational engagement with executive-level reporting and long-term safety strategy development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a dedicated Safety Team across multiple facilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Drive a strong safety culture through training, leadership engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Conduct regular safety and process audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance
- Deliver safety training and education to employees at all levels
- Oversee incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning
- Prepare detailed investigation reports and ensure corrective actions are executed and documented
- Maintain accurate and detailed safety records and documentation
- Develop, track, and report safety metrics, KPIs, and trends to executive leadership
- Collaborate with management and employees to reinforce safe behaviors and workplace practices
- Enforce safety standards consistently across operations
- Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes
- Review processes and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management or a similar leadership role
- Strong working knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards
- Proven experience leading safety culture initiatives and reducing incident rates
- Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships with Production, Safety, Quality, HR, and Executive Leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
- CSP, ASP, or equivalent professional safety certification
- Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations
- Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience
