Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Work/Professional Experience





    1. Oregon licensed truck driver with demonstrated driving ability and no more than one accident or moving violation within the last 12 months
    2. Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience driving larger commercial vehicles
    3. Preferred if trained and certified to operate a Forklift





    Scope of Position:

    The Production Assistant is to operate a truck in accordance with the Salvation Army policy in order to support the overall operations of the Thrift Store and Social Services offices. Additionally, the Production Assistant will assist in processing and pricing donations and placing donations for purchase in the store.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:



    1. Must demonstrate a passion for, and be familiar with The Salvation Army's mission, doctrine and local ministries; and represent the ideals of The Salvation Army in every aspect of his/her work
    2. The ability to follow directions and be familiar with thrift store operations
    3. The ability to present oneself in a professional and appropriate manner.
    4. The ability to adhere to guidelines.
    5. Be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
    6. The ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a positive manner
    7. The Production Assistant must demonstrate the ability to complete job assignments, safely operate Salvation Army vehicles and support the overall mission of the Salvation Army by appropriately representing the Army in public.
    8. This position requires the ability to be flexible in the work week schedule. Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.



    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    It is the responsibility of each employee of The Salvation Army, Medford Citadel Corps, to reach out to people, without discrimination, in the name of The Salvation Army; helping to build whole people- spirit, soul and body- in the name of The Salvation Army.




    1. Operate the truck safely in a manner consistent with Salvation Army policy
    2. Receive all items donated in a pleasant and courteous manner
    3. When material is not suitable for resale or on the not accepted list, refuse it in a tactful and polite way
    4. Offer each donor a receipt for Income Tax purposes. Under no circumstances does the Production Assistant place a value on any donation
    5. The Production Assistant is responsible to see that material is not damaged in handling by the them and/or helper while being picked up, transported or off-loaded
    6. They will make prescribed deliveries to the thrift store, social services and other programs as necessary
    7. While in the store, the Production Assistant will give assistance to the managers in placing items in the appropriate places
    8. It is the responsibility of the Production Assistant to unload the truck after donation pickups. The truck should never be left with merchandise or other items in the back
    9. The Production Assistant must do a prescribed safety and equipment check each day before and after using the truck, and is responsible to see that operation levels for fluids (gas, oil, air, etc.) are maintained
    10. Must attend assigned safety and driver training meetings
    11. Will assist with social services pick up, delivery, stacking and unloading as needed
    12. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor



    Physical Requirements:

    Must have the ability to: sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead, and to lift up to 75 lbs. Must be able to work in an environment that is fast paced, deals with various units (within The Medford Citadel Corps) and must be able to multi-task and work in spite of interruptions an surrounding activities.

    Working Conditions:



    1. The following equipment may be used: Box Truck, forklift, pallet jack, dolly, shopping carts, baler machine
    2. Working outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather
    3. Possible exposure to communicable diseases
    4. Works under adverse conditions such as noise, smoke, heat, dust, rough terrain, and all types of weather
    5. Work in an environment containing exhaust, dust, grime, odors, and fumes



    Miscellaneous:

    The Salvation Army does have a dress code. For this position that would include close toed shoes, preferably work boots, jeans/other pants without holes, and shorts can be worn in warmer months if at the knee or below.
