Overview

The Systems Cyber Specialist under the general guidance of the Cyber Manager is responsible for overseeing work of a team of analysts that are responsible for providing technical support of the existing IT security systems in Information Security. This role will also be responsible for leading the team, contributing technical expertise, and providing guidance to the analysis of Cybersecurity incidents and events. The Systems Cyber Specialist will also develop and create procedures that will help the team in better monitoring of the IT computing infrastructure, provide timely response and troubleshoot alerts generated by various security tools. This position is also responsible for day-to-day IT administrative tasks, problem solving, and issue resolution.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Supervise technical staff including employees and contractors responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting and supporting intrusion prevention, endpoint protection, data loss prevention, and access control technologies.
  • Provides guidance &/or conducts architectural, configuration, solution and quality reviews. Helps coordinate with all internal IT groups and other organizations, including vendors to ensure standards are implemented and issues addressed. Directs team members as required for resolution.
  • Monitors team members' performance by tracking individual performance and productivity against standards.
  • Prepare detailed integration and architectural diagrams to ensure secure architecture.
  • Work closely with subordinates to ensure further development and progress on individual developmental plans.
  • Develop Request for Proposal (RFP) specifications; perform technical evaluations and make recommendations.
  • Serve as project manager for small-scale vendor installation of infrastructure components.
  • Promote a customer service-oriented team by emphasizing professionalism, honesty, concern, courtesy, excellence and teamwork in a group.
  • Ensure that communications between staff members and business organizations are handed in a professional, efficient manner.
  • Work with necessary Information Technology groups to satisfy specific technology related issues. Act as an Information Security liaison between the customers and all groups in Information Technology.
  • Respond swiftly to all alerts, performing initial risk/impact assessments or escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Follow change management controls and guidelines and Issue daily reports and follow established procedures.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
  • Firewall administration, operation and integration.
  • Monitor cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities and provide support as necessary to incident response team.
  • Perform various administrative duties such as approving time sheets, processing equipment orders, service manager tickets, and creating various reports.
  • Act as Systems Manager, when absent.
  • Motivate others to achieve results by holding them accountable for work outcome.
  • Implementation of network firewalls.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience in IT or Information security or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years of relevant experience in IT or Information security or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of relevant experience in IT or Information security.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology,
  • Computer Science, Math, Engineering or business-related disciplines.
  • and Certifications in CISSP, CISM, CIPP are preferred. 3 years work experience in Information Security; Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT), Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC), or Incident Management experience is preferred. Good understanding of industry standard policy, processes and procedures covering incident, problem and change management.
Relevant Work Experience
  • 3+ years of experience designing, developing, implementing secure architectures and/or processes, required.
  • 3+ years of implementation of network firewalls experience, required.
  • 3+ years of firewall administration, operation and integration experience, required.
  • Thorough understanding of communication protocols and security standards, required.
  • Strong understanding of cyber security principles, required.
  • Threat management, Risk management and/or, Compliance experience, required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication. Must be comfortable and skilled at selling information security processes and techniques. Must be able to communicate designs and give persuasive presentations. Must be able to interact with all levels of management and communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience, required.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities while meeting deadlines, required.
  • Must be flexible and able to work off-hours as required to support deployments, resolve production problems or respond to corporate emergencies, required.
  • Experience with implementing or integrating commercially available infrastructure components, preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating technology and establishing standard designs, preferred.
  • Must be conversant in emerging technologies and practices, e.g. Next Generation Firewalls, security devices, and cloud computing components, preferred.
  • Ability to establish medium and long-term plans and priorities and estimate investment requirements, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
