Markings Inspector, D&C

New York City Department of Transportation
$46,327.00 - $63,013.00
United States, New York, Queens
Jan 17, 2026

Join our dynamic team in the Design and Construction unit, within the Transportation Planning and Management Division. We lead professional engineering oversight for curb line geometry and street plans across New York City's five Boroughs. Our responsibilities extend to project and contractor management, as well as the implementation of pavement markings for Street Improvement Projects, Marking After Resurfacing, and street refurbishments. With oversight of 11 construction contracts valued at several million dollars and responsibility for overseeing the installation of 60 million linear feet (MLF) of markings per year, our mission is to enhance the safety and functionality of city streets, aligning with crucial initiatives such as Vision Zero and other city goals. This presents an exciting opportunity for ambitious, experienced, and motivated professionals to contribute to the improvement of safety on NYC streets.

The NYC Department of Transportation's Construction Unit is seeking several motivated and detail-oriented individuals to serve as Senior Service Inspectors within the Markings/Construction team. These positions support the citywide delivery of pavement marking projects by performing advanced inspection and measurement duties that are essential to accurate work order development and project documentation. Selected candidates will perform pre-inspections, field inspections, and post-installation reviews; prepare and verify work orders; confirm quantities through field measurements, Nearmap, and contract drawings; and ensure that all related documentation including drawings, M-Orders, attachments, and invoices accurately reflects the work performed.

Senior Service Inspectors will work closely with markings contractors to verify quantities, clarify installation limits, and confirm that installed markings match approved work orders and specifications. Candidates will maintain organized records of their inspections, measure quantities, and complete work packages, and will routinely report field observations that support the safe and efficient execution of pavement marking work. These positions require accuracy, consistency, and strong technical judgment in both field and office settings. Additional responsibilities include ensuring that measurement tools and inspection vehicles are functioning properly and promptly reporting any equipment needs. Senior Service Inspectors will collaborate with borough construction staff, project managers, and internal stakeholders across TPM to communicate field conditions, resolve location-specific issues, and support the sequencing and coordination of active work orders. These roles are critical to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of measurement-based documentation that underpins payment processing and project tracking.

If you are a dedicated professional eager to make a meaningful impact on the safety and efficiency of NYC streets, we encourage you to apply and join our mission-driven team.
