Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Heavy Duty Technician Supervisor, the Heavy Duty Technician will coordinate routine maintenance, repair and inspection, and assignment of daily work for vehicle maintenance staff. The Heavy Duty Technician performs inspections, maintenance, service, and repair of University heavy-duty vehicles. The incumbent assists with oversight and maintenance of the Transit CNG fueling station and/or heavy-duty electric vehicle chargers and ensures compliance with California vehicle code, Title 13, federal, state and DOT/CHP regulations.

Qualifications
Automotive/ Bus Mechanic 3 years or more working experience as an automotive mechanic and/or 2 years as a bus mechanic. (Required) 1. Demonstrated skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and the Assetworks FA Fleet Management Information System, and the Geotab telematics monitoring interface. Skill in operating a diagnostic computer and related software packages. (Required)2. Ability to carry and utilize a company owned cell phone, responding to calls, emails, text, Geotab tracking, and chats during working hours. (Required)3. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret measuring and diagnostic devices such as micrometers, hydraulic pressure gauges, volt meters, ohm and ampere meters, and other diagnostic devices. (Required)4. Ability to operate a brake drum/disc lathe, scope, AVR diagnostic equipment, computerized emissions tester, and other necessary equipment related to heavy-duty vehicles and buses. (Required)5. Demonstrated skill in servicing and repairing heavy-duty gas, diesel, CNG, and electric bus engines. Ability to meet heavy-duty classed vehicle and bus industry productivity standards, as indicated by standard flat rate manuals. (Required)6. Demonstrated ability to accurately test and service air and hydraulic brake systems. (Required)7. Ability to prepare and write clear, concise diagnostic reports and maintenance records. (Required)8. Ability to read and comprehend literature, catalogs, publications, and technical manuals relating to the bus and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance field. (Required)9. Ability to lift objects weighing 50 - 75 pounds with assistance. Knowledge of shop and equipment safety practices. (Required)10. Ability to speak English using effective oral and interpersonal skills to convey concise, accurate information on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting, using technical data involving appropriate automotive industry vocabulary, and other instructions. (Required)11. Ability to work occasional overtime. (Required)12. Skills in use of standard automotive tools and equipment. Ability to read and understand technical automotive manuals and other technical briefings, and bulletins. Ability to diagnose and repair Electric, Hybrid Electric vehicles, and Electric LSV carts. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Associate's Degree Automotive Associate Degree or equivalent experience (Preferred) Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA Commercial Class B License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)Must possess and maintain a valid California class B driver's license with air brake and passenger endorsement. (Required) ASE Certifications; Transit Bus H Series, Med/Heavy Truck T Series, School Bus S Series, Alternative Fuels F Series. (Preferred) Maintain ASE Blue Seal Certification, by meeting all pre-establish guidelines as a shop. (Preferred) State Bureau of Automotive Repair licenses (Preferred)
