AI/ML Systems Engineer woodcons.com Location: Linthicum, Maryland, USA Job Type: Full-Time Shift: Day Telework: None Salary Range: **$120,00 to $205,000 per year ** Starting salary is based on minimum education and years of experience and increases based on education and/or experience.
Join WOOD's mission engineering team supporting a complex systemsofsystems environment. You'll design and deliver NLP/ML solutions and robust data pipelines that extract, process, and visualize insights from defense artifacts (e.g., PDFs, CONOPS, DoDAF documents), helping decisionmakers move faster and smarter. We are seeking candidates at all levels. Application Process: Interested candidates should submit their resume detailing their qualifications and experience. Security Clearance Requirements: This position requires all candidates to be U.S. Citizens and possess an active TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Polygraph.
Responsibilities
Engineer solutions across systemsofsystems, collaborating with government and technical stakeholders to translate CONOPS and highlevel architectures into actionable requirements and designs.
- Build document parsing and data processing pipelines for unstructured/semistructured sources using tools such as Apache Tika and PDFMiner.
- Develop and evaluate NLP/ML models (TensorFlow or PyTorch) in Python/R, delivering qualitative and quantitative analytics with clear data visualizations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation (architecture/design docs, interface controls), and support integration & test planning.
- Communicate findings and tradeoffs to program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.
Qualifications
Required Education & Years of Experience:
- Systems Engineer Level 1
- Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required and seven (7) years as a SE in program and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
- Systems Engineer Level 2
- Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required and fourteen (14) years as a SE in program and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
- Systems Engineer Level 3
- Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required and twenty (20) years as a SE in program and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
- Note: Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Additional Experience Requirements:

Programming & ML: Proficiency in Python and/or R; handson with TensorFlow or PyTorch. -
Data extraction: Experience using Apache Tika and PDFMiner for unstructured/semistructured sources. -
Systems engineering: Background in requirements analysis, architecture/design, interface definition, and verification methods in a complex SoS context. -
Visualization & analysis: Strength in qualitative/quantitative analytics and communicating results through dashboards/visuals.
