Responsibilities

The CAD Engineer/Designer Intern will be located in our Plant 3, Whitehall Casting Operation in Whitehall, MI.

We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic student to join our Plant 3 team. This position will assist our Layout Department and Engineering teams with process improvement initiatives, customer qualification activities, and product tooling design.

The 2026 Summer Internship Program consists of 10-14 weeks of structured hands-on training involving plant tours, lunch & learn seminars, fun networking events to connect with fellow interns, and projects selected to add direct value to the business. At the conclusion of the program, each intern will present their projects to plant managers, supervisors, and mentors. An internship at Howmet Aerospace will provide an invaluable experience that you can utilize in any role, and it's Howmet's goal to evaluate our interns for potential entry-level openings.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum completion of Sophomore level coursework from an accredited institution (by May 2026).
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in engineering in Mechanical or CAD discipline
  • AutoCAD, CAD/CAM, and SolidWorks experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment
  • Highly detailed and organized
  • Relevant internship/work experience a plus
