POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Director, Transactional Accounting, is responsible for the Organization's financial transaction processing including Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. The Accounting Director will direct and coordinate daily activities of Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Manage day-to-day payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions to ensure accuracy and timely processing. Perform thorough review of payroll registers, 401K contributions, invoicing, collections, check runs, wire support, settlement of intercompany transactions and accounting system data entry and reconciliation.
* Support staff in the resolution or remediation of any open issues or bottlenecks related to all aspects of financial transaction processing including employee payments, expense reports, credit cards, sales tax, collections, invoices and credit memos, three-way match variances and payment approvals.
* Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals. Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
* Provide Tax Department with timely monthly, quarterly and annual information as required.
* Provide guidance and direction to staff for the purpose of maintaining organized and detailed financial accounting records and files to document transactions.
* Review weekly and monthly reports and metrics, for example Days Sales Outstanding.
* Leverage existing system or identify new solutions to achieve both efficient and best practices.
* Ensure accurate and timely reporting of transactional information to the Assistant VP and Controller and VP of Finance pursuant to the pre-established close calendar.
* Ensure all Payroll, A/R, A/P and Treasury procedures, cash application, accounting system data entry, and reconciliations comply with internal controls, US GAAP and government or other audit requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or related field.
* A minimum of ten years of experience within public and corporate accounting; experience with multi-national operations preferred.
* Three years of management experience.
* Experience with accounting practices in accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll as well as substantial exposure to account and bank reconciliation processes.
* CPA preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); knowledge of government accounting standards a plus.
* Demonstrated capacity to lead and build strong teams as well as attract and develop exceptional talent. Ability to establish accountabilities, expectations and manage performance to achieve goals.
* Ability to independently visualize and format financial/statistical data in a manner which conveys a large amount of information for decision making purposes with limited further analysis or interpretation.
* Successful experience working in a fast paced environment and managing competing demands.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with the ability to work across all levels in the organization. Must collaborate extremely well with others and avoid becoming overly self-reliant.
* Must have a strong business acumen balanced with a strategic and operational orientation (i.e. hands on, roll up the sleeves approach with a strong sense of urgency; able to link short and long term visions to daily activities).
* Proficient in MS Office Suite; advanced proficiency in Excel, ERP experience required. (JD Edwards preferred).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is performed in a traditional office environment with hybrid schedule possible.
COMPENSATION SUMMARY
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $131,600.00 to $205,625.00. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
