Overview

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a Retail Pharmacy Manager (MID Pharmacy Services Manager) to provide leadership and oversight of our Peoria retail pharmacy and remote dispensing clinics. This role includes management of daily pharmacy operations, accreditation oversight, renewal of contracts, and ensuring high standards of specialty pharmacy services.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Successfully performs all duties of a staff pharmacist.
  • Serves as the leader for the specialty retail pharmacy accreditations. (ACHC and URAC).
  • Conducts initial patient evaluations and work-ups regarding disease status and anticipated prescribed therapy, including health histories and other relevant patient data to optimize drug therapy.
  • Coordinates with providers in planning and implementing patient care plans to ensure the safe and timely delivery of drug therapy. Maintains thorough and appropriate documentation in the patient clinical chart, including communication with other healthcare professionals.
  • Establishes therapeutic objectives and monitors patients for desired therapeutic outcomes, including the detection of adverse reactions and complications associated with therapy. Recommends modifications in drug therapy if indicated.
  • Provides counseling and answers questions from patients and family concerning drug therapy. Instructs patients on the effects of food and alcohol intake and warns of potential side effects. Provides professional drug information and assistance to medical staff.
  • Assists with medication access.
  • Prepares and dispenses medication orders. Reviews and performs QA checks on all new and repeat medication orders, including evaluation of patient profiles and comprehensive drug data files to assess for any incompatibilities.
  • Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization. Checks all orders for insurance approval before dispensing.
  • Checks all prescriptions for completeness and calculates correct dosages, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Organizes and directs the technician's workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Properly disposes of all hazardous materials or medications when necessary.
  • Participates in pharmacy teaching and in-service programs as necessary. Receives new drug education from pharmaceutical representatives; remains abreast of new information. Monitors and informs staff of new drug regulations.
  • Temporary Leadership: In the absence of the Dir, Phar & Admix Svcs, serves as the temporary leader of the pharmacy, reporting to the practice Executive Director.
  • Assists with policy, guideline, and counseling guide development and handling of hazardous drugs processes. Ensures that record keeping is compliant with practice standards.
  • Develops and implements strategic plans for the MID department in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Leads and supervises a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other support staff.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the MID department, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery.
  • Provides training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and implements improvement plans as necessary.
  • Manages departmental budgets and resources effectively.
  • Effectively works alongside other Pharmacy leadership on joint projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • PharmD required
  • Minimum three years of experience
  • At least two years of prior supervisory and management experience preferred
  • Valid state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist
  • Strong knowledge of medication management and pharmacy operations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Proficiency in pharmacy information systems and technology
