This position serves as the primary care provider, managing all acute and chronic care needs for incarcerated men, age 18 and older. Responsibilities include performing physical examinations, diagnosing illnesses and conditions, and prescribing a plan of corrective care within the specialty area of practice in collaboration with a licensed physician.


Key Responsibilities

  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' clinical problems and healthcare needs.
  • Record physical findings and formulate plans and prognoses based on patients' conditions.
  • Discuss cases with physicians and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Submit healthcare plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by a physician.
  • Prescribe or recommend drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Refer patients to physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment as needed.


Qualifications

  • Must have a New York State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Certification by the New York State Education Department in a specialty area to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
