HJF is seeking a Part Time Research Nurse Practitioner/TMS Operator. This position, under the supervision of protocol investigators, will coordinate clinical study participation and compliance, data collection, and the administration of study procedures and study treatment, including potentially administering Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) using IRB approved Investigational Devices and Procedures. This position will primarily support a multi-site, randomized, interventional trial of non-invasive brain stimulation treatment for military service members with traumatic brain injury.

This position will be in support of The Uniformed Services University Department of Neurology and located in Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir, VA. Focused on ADEPT: Adaptive Trial for the Treatment of Depressive Symptoms associated with Concussion using Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Protocols.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. This position will be regularly scheduled for 19 hours per week.


  • Administer and support IRB-approved Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) interventions under investigator supervision, including participant preparation, device setup and monitoring, comfort and safety oversight, troubleshooting, follow-up, and limited travel to military treatment facilities.

  • Conduct comprehensive medical record reviews and participant interviews to collect eligibility, medical history, and protocol-required data.

  • Monitor, document, and communicate participant responses, adverse events, and safety concerns; participate in case conferences; escalate significant findings per protocol; and provide emergency care and triage as needed.

  • Support protocol adherence and quality of care by providing feedback to investigators, identifying operational or clinical issues, and contributing to continuous improvement of clinical and research processes.

  • Educate participants and stakeholders on study purpose, procedures, responsibilities, and risks/benefits of participation.

  • May provide clinical, regulatory, and administrative research support, including recruitment, informed consent, scheduling, visit coordination, intervention administration, data collection and verification, regulatory documentation, and sponsor communications.

  • May contribute to study operations and dissemination activities, including protocol and manual development, data collection instruments, abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, field visits, required training, and responses to sponsor, institutional, and regulatory inquiries.


Education and Experience

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior experience in a clinical research environment and knowledge of Neurology, Behavioral Health, Military Medicine, and/or clinical research.

  • Prior experience with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation preferred.

  • Experience with utilization of electronic military medical records and military medical systems preferred.

  • Ability to multi-task with high degree of attention to detail and bring tasks to completion.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.

  • Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.

  • U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a T3 secret clearance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current Licensure to practice as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner in the state of Virginia.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinic or hospital setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $44.76-$65.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
