Scope:

TTM Stafford Springs is a contract manufacturer of complex electronic assemblies. Continuous improvement and process efficiency is required to further grow capacity and custom satisfaction. The automation engineer will be required to research and implement process efficiency improvements through robotics or automation techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify Automation Opportunities:

    • Understand the function of all equipment and fabrication process in each assembly area

    • Identify processes that can be improved through automation (labor intensive, quality risk, repetitive strain, slow, high precision, etc.)

  • Research, design, and propose automated solutions to present to senior leadership:

    • Learn current manual process

    • Identify what robot configuration & work area, camera & lighting, safety sensors etc. are needed

    • Justify need with quantifiable savings (quality increase, time reduction, etc.)

    • Write up proposals / forms to submit for capital approval

  • Implement approved automation initiatives (Mechanical Design, Programming, Electrical Engineering)

    • Primary - Mechanical Design of:

      • Robot mount & cages, fixtures, end effectors, tool changers, sensor mounts etc. for automated solutions

    • Secondary -

      • Programming of robots, Ignition & machine connections, machine vision solutions etc.

      • Wiring and designing electrical back panels as needed for automated solutions

      • Establish connections to SCADA system via machine protocols

  • Learn as a team:

    • Advocate for trainings needed to advance the automation team

    • Ability to identify internal TTM resources to aid in automation at Stafford Springs

  • Assist in Rollout & Training:

    • Run tests to qualify and release new systems

    • Train users on new equipment / robots / process & write corresponding procedures

    • Mentor other engineers on automation practices

Qualifications:

  • Strong Foundation of mechanical engineering skills

    • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software (model and prints)

    • Strong understanding of 3D printing or machining

    • Strong understanding of design for machineability, etc.

    • Strong understanding of material properties

    • Understanding of GD&T is a plus

  • Decent Foundation in programming and electrical engineering skills

    • Foundation of good programming practices

    • Foundation of good electrical engineering practices

  • Experience in leadership and teaching others

  • Experience working with suppliers and customers is a plus

  • Project Management experience is a plus.

  • Passionate for Automation/Robotics & Engineering

    • Creative and hands-on

    • Capable of analyzing, de-bugging and solving complex problems

    • Ability to interpret customer documentation (blueprints, drawings, specifications, bills of material) and apply those requirements to guide an automated solution

    • Robust troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

    • Excited to learn new programming languages, software, hardware and engineering concepts

    • Demonstrates the ability to learn new skills, teach self and research solutions

  • Well organized, pays attention to details & sees the benefit of clear documentation

    • Independent (knows how to plan their tasks, no need for daily guidance) & the ability to work effectively with little supervision

    • Effective writer & communicator without the use of LLMs

    • Can maintain several projects at once across different disciplines (Ignition machine connection, robot build, etc.)

  • Team player

    • Loves to work in a dynamic and multi-cultural environment

    • Demonstrates ability to work with production floor associates and other engineers

    • Willing to make changes on automated systems based on user feedback & needs

Education and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in automation-related field OR technical degree and 5+ years engineering/technical related experience in robotics / automation.

Compensation for roles at TTM Technologies varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set and level of experience. As required by local law, TTM provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that my be hired in New York, California and Colorado. For California-based roles, compensation ranges are based upon specific physical locations.
