As a Machine Shop operator, you must be mechanically inclined, demonstrate the ability to assembly components of various products in the machine shop. Individual will operate a wide range of manual, semi-automated and automated machines.

Scope of Position

As a Machine Shop Operator, you must be mechanically inclined, demonstrate the ability to assemble components of various products in the machine shop. Individuals will operate a wide range of manual, semi-automated and automated machines.

This position reports to Machine Shop Supervisor at Josam Company located in Michigan City, IN. This role is onsite and is based in Michigan City, IN.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machines such as drill presses, tappers, milling machines and polishing equipment according to specifications and job requirements.
  • Setup and adjust machines to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Finishing operations such as drilling, tapping, and milling
  • Inspection of finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Forklift operation as needed to move parts.
  • Maintain clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to optimize production processes.
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure that safe work practices are adhered to.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of vocational training a plus
  • Minimum of 1 year experience within a Fabrication, Machine Shop or other manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience in using a variety of tools and machines (drill presses, tappers, milling machines, polishing equipment, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in machining parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical and procedure manuals, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to read blueprints and gauges.
  • Ability to read and apply concepts such as measurements, fractions, and percentages.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Working Conditions

  • While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site in a manufacturing facility. You will be required to work at the Josam facility located in Michigan City, IN. Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.

Physical Requirements: Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to physically move around manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to read documents and communicate clearly with management and coworkers.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, which may include, but is not limited to, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
