*OSP Engineer - QC Specialist (Chicago Market - MUST HAVE CHICAGO UNDERGROUND OSP EXPERIENCE)* *Location:* 100% Remote (Ideally based in Illinois)
*Eligibility Requirement:* *Only candidates who have performed QC or engineering work on OSP underground projects in the Chicago/Illinois market will be considered. No exceptions.* *Employment Type:* Contract-to-Hire *Compensation:* Based on experience *Industry:* Telecom / Outside Plant Engineering *Overview* We are supporting a fully remote role for an OSP Engineer whose primary responsibility is *quality control (QC), redlining, and validation of vendor-produced OSP design packages* supporting fiber builds in the Chicago metro area. Candidates may live anywhere in the U.S., but *must have direct, hands-on experience working on OSP underground engineering projects in the Chicago/Illinois market*, including work involving Chicago permitting, local utilities, and AHJ expectations. *This is a strict requirement - no exceptions or alternative markets accepted.* This is a QC/oversight role, not a production design role. *What You'll Do (QCFocused Responsibilities)* You will act as the *QC authority* for all vendor-submitted underground OSP designs supporting Chicago-area deployments. Responsibilities include: * Performing detailed QC checks on routing, conduit paths, ductbank layouts, and underground construction methods * Reviewing splice diagrams, fiber allocation sheets, and supporting documentation * Validating BOM accuracy, constructability, and compliance with client specifications * Identifying errors or inconsistencies and delivering clear, actionable redlines * Ensuring design alignment with *City of Chicago*, CDOT, ComEd, Cook County, and suburban municipal standards * Flagging permitting risks, utility conflicts, and constructability issues upfront * Working directly with vendors and internal teams to resolve discrepancies before designs reach production This position is *100% QC-driven* - success depends on accuracy, standards knowledge, and constructability judgment. *Required Experience* * Background in OSP design (fiber, coax, or both) * Strong experience performing QC reviews, detailed redlines, or design validation * Ability to interpret construction drawings, utility maps, field sketches, and splice documentation * Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS platforms, or client-specific OSP design systems * Deep understanding of underground construction, ROW rules, and utility coordination * *Must have completed underground OSP engineering projects in the Chicago/Illinois market - required, non-negotiable* * Ideally resides in Illinois due to familiarity with regional agencies and permitting workflows * Exceptional attention to detail and ability to clearly communicate corrective actions *Preferred Experience* * QC oversight of vendor-submitted designs for major telecom carriers/MSOs * Field exposure that informs constructability assessment * Knowledge of ductbank engineering, utility conflict mitigation, and route planning * Familiarity with Chicago-area stakeholders (ComEd, CDOT, City of Chicago DWM/DOA, Cook County, suburban public works offices) *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $43.00/hr.
