*The Staff Psychiatrist (MD) performs the functions of evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment formulation of individual treatment plans for older psychiatric patients (with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses), to conduct routine non-clinical forensic evaluations (e.g., commitment, guardianship), and to direct the ongoing care of patients on the geriatrics inpatient programs
*Provides clinical services including pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy
*Maintains contact with family members and conducts family meetings as appropriate.
*Documents in the record by the completion of treatment plans, patient encounter forms, appropriate progress notes, clinical summaries, and other documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
*Serves as liaison to other health care professionals including mental health practitioners and others. Also coordinates care with inpatient staff teams,
*Provides interface with payers and managed care organizations through the completion of timely and effective reviews and necessary authorizations.
*Participates in division and hospital administrative activities (e.g., staff meetings, CQI, hospital committees, etc.) as required.
*Maintains awareness of medicolegal/risk management issues.
*Participates in the hospital teaching and research efforts, including supervision and training of medical students, psychiatry residents and geriatric psychiatry fellows rotating through the inpatient service.
*Is available to provide after-hours coverage and weekend coverage as per divisional protocol.

Qualifications - External

Degree: M.D. degree (or equivalent as confirmed by ECFMG) required

License: License to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of MA or in the state where services are provided.

Experience: 3 to 4 years formal residency education in a program approved by the RRC of the ACGME.ABP&N eligible or certified psychiatrist. Completion of Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry strongly preferred.
