Job Description

The College of Arts & Sciences seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Business Support Specialist I to provide essential general administrative and office support that includes a broad range of responsibilities for a proximity-based work center comprised of one or more academic departments within the College. Requires a positive, responsible, proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills. Position reports to the Senior Business Specialist within the Center.

This position is within the MCPEC Center which consists of the departments of Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, Political Science and Public Policy Admin Program, Economics, and Criminology & Criminal Justice.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of independent, specialized business support duties for the assigned department(s) or Center under guidance of the Senior Business Specialist
  • Successfully performs multiple administrative tasks simultaneously in an environment with frequent interruptions and deadlines
  • Executes, documents and reports on business and fiscal operations using established templates and procedures
  • Provides administrative support to the Senior Business Support Specialist; organizes and completes structured assignments according to priorities and deadlines
  • Recognizes and solves problems that occur, sometimes without supervisory approval
  • Works with various vendors, customers, internal or external constituencies to complete complex projects; essential in implementing UM Shared Service Center Initiative in their respective center
  • Assists with scheduling facilities, equipment and catering for events, meetings and programs
  • Assists with creation and maintenance of department websites, newsletters and other published items
  • Assist with Appearance agreements, & Vendor contracts
  • Bi-Weekly and monthly payroll and reconciliation
  • Financial Reviews
  • CONGOS Reports
  • One Card Purchases
  • Travel Arrangements
  • Reimbursements
  • Show-Me Shop Purchases
  • Collection of Syllabi and Office Hours
  • Mail packages and/or receive mail
  • Acts as an informal mentor to Office Support III staff within the Center, providing training and general instruction; Assists with training new Office Support III employees
  • May serve as coverage/backup for Office Assistant duties as needed

Shift

40 hours/week Monday-Friday

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Salary Range: $15-$18 per hour
