What Your Job Will Be Like

Are you passionate about facilities? We are seeking a highly motivated Facilities Technologist to join our team as we support construction, maintenance, and contract service activities!

This position includes a wide range of oversight of commercial and industrial construction related activities. This includes assisting the project team during the construction phase of a project by performing inspection activities, quality assurance, and coordination of a variety of activities with the construction supplier. The selected applicant will partner with all disciplines of code inspection and project team personnel to deliver the best possible product.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Act as the Sandia representative in carrying out the field administration of construction contracts for the Mechanical discipline to determine contractors compliance with drawings, codes and specifications, life safety, accessibility, quality, and minor safety standards.
  • Understand and enforce the requirements in the International Building Codes, Sandia Design Manual, Specifications and Standards.
  • Conduct field visits to jobsites to observe and evaluate construction work.
  • Complete field reports documenting the progress, quality, and safety of construction work.
  • Ensure Requests for Information (RFIs) ASIs, Change Orders and red lines are incorporated by contractors.
  • Assists contractors in obtaining permits and ensuring permit requirements are met.
  • Coordinate outages with the various disciplines as needed.
  • Identifies and resolves construction and minor safety issues and reports concerns to the SDR/construction safety group at Sandia.
  • Perform final inspections and provide timely and accurate inspection reports and documents acceptance of work.
  • Support operational capabilities within facilities, including construction safety, permitting, document control, space management, energy monitoring, and information technology applications.
  • Ensure all results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.

Overtime may be required - willingness and ability to be on call, work a flexible schedule.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$63,800 - $123,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • High School Diploma plus five (5) or more years of construction experience Mechanical and Plumbing disciplines.
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Mechanical and Plumbing building components and activities.
    • Site Infrastructure, building rough in through trim out and final completion, life safety, and ADA/ABA accessibility.
  • Ability to obtain a New Mexico Journeyman JPG License and ICC - IBC Commercial Mechanical and Plumbing Inspector certifications within six (6) months of employment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Active certifications by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Commercial Mechanical and Plumbing Inspector.
  • Knowledge of and experience with practices including resource scheduling and direct interface with clients and subcontractors.
  • Knowledgeable of Behavior Based Safety (BBS) procedures and construction practices.
  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or a technical vocational degree.
  • Completed OSHA 10 and OSHA 30-hour training.
  • Experience with High Hazard facilities construction.
  • Familiarity with systems supporting Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities and Clean Rooms.
  • Technical writing experience.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided drafting and design (CADD).
  • Active DOE L security clearance, or other active security clearance.
About Our Team

The Facilities Integrated Services department (04925) provides building construction and alteration code compliance oversight and documentation across architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and energy systems. This department also provides inspection, minor safety oversight and work acceptance support for all construction projects performed at Sandia National Laboratories to ensure construction code compliance to include spec and process

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
